He is also a helicopter and airplane pilot. Our approach is different. No ads and no paywalls. We are committed to keeping content free and open to everyone. Your generous support allows us to continue to provide independent news reporting for Sonoma County. We have costs associated with running the page that we don’t pass on to you through required subscriptions like other media, so donations help us pay for that. We believe in a no-tolerance stance on crime and support our public safety departments and first responders. We want Sonoma County to be a safe place to live for everyone. We believe in accountability. We want people to be aware of the high rates of mental illness, addiction, and suicide and how it affects us all. We believe in community awareness and want people to realize what is going on around them so they can help make a change. We do not endorse any political party, candidate, or group. We do our best to remain neutral on our opinions unless we are coming from a stance of education on an issue. (I.e., explaining why something happened the way it did.) We want to provide the most accurate information regarding your safety, whether it’s crime, fires, evacuation info, power safety shut-offs, or other natural disasters. The page was initially founded by “Admin 1,” who, after almost six years, started a new chapter of life outside of Sonoma County and turned over the page to one of the admins. “In 2012, I lived in Lake County when the Wye fire broke out. I had 15 minutes to get all my stuff and had no idea where to start. I grabbed my birth certificate, my purse, my artwork, some photos, and my pets. I sat on the side of Highway 20 for 4 hours, waiting for a CHP escort to an evacuation area. I had no idea where the center was because there was no cell phone service where I lived, and the phone lines were down. I only knew we were being evacuated because of the enormous plume of smoke and the fire marshal driving through with a loudspeaker. I remember driving out of my neighborhood with burning trees around me. I had to wear those clothes for two days but returned home two days later. I worked as a non-emergency call taker when the Rocky and Valley Fire hit in 2015. The apocalyptic smoke was terrible. The fire alarms kept coming into our dispatch office, and that’s how we knew where the fire was going and going into neighborhoods. I dispatched graveyards and did day shifts at the shelter, using my position as a volunteer for a local news site to get into neighborhoods to feed animals, check on people’s homes, and evacuate those without vehicles. THEN the Clayton fire hit in 2016. Same thing, and once again, I had to evacuate... but now I had a system down and a checklist. During this time is when I decided that my calling was public safety and service, and that is what I stuck with as I moved down to Sonoma County. I was going to be living here, and I wanted to be safe for myself and my future family and help those around me. In 2018 I graduated from the EMT program at the College of Marin, and now majoring in Criminal Justice. In 2020 I started doing private investigation work and was voted onto the board of directors for a nonprofit that helps survivors of human trafficking, as well as education and prevention.” We all work as a team, and we appreciate the support. We have a lot of contacts in public safety to get information and guidance, and we have met with different departments to get their support for the page and make sure we are posting everything beneficial to their work. If we don’t know the answer, we do our best to get it.
